We're pretty sure you've heard of SEO, but do you know what it stands for and why you need it?

The acronym SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. To break it down easily SEO is how people find your site on search engines (such as Google). Under each page in Squarespace make sure to add a small description. You can do this by clicking on the gear icon next to the page in your dashboard. There is a box titled "description" for you to add a couple sentences to. Even it's a repeat of what is already on your page, write a description. Google (and other search engines) with start pulling this information. While you're writing the sentences keep in mind what people might be Googling to find you. Use as many of those keywords as possible.

DON'T: Write only keywords.

NAME YOUR IMAGES PROPERLY

A great habit to get into is adding links to older post that are relevant to your topic at the end of your post. You can also strategically add these links within the content of your post. This keeps your readers interested in your content longer and also sets you up as an expert in the topic.

USE TEXT RATHER THAN IMAGES

By now you might know that Google can’t read images. If you are utilizing headlines on your website take advantage of the heading options instead of creating images for your text. You can set these headings up in your Style Editor on your Squarespace dashboard.

ADD AN SEO DESCRIPTION

On your Squarespace dashboard under Settings > Marketing there is an options for SEO. There is a box there for a Search Engine Description. Type one or two sentences in that box that describe your business. Use keywords like your location or and what you do.
