Our Favorite Social Media Tools

We have some favorite tools that we use for social media every day. They keep us much more organized and on top of our game. We hope at least one of them helps to make your social experience even better.


Talk about a lifesaver. Planoly helps us visualize our Instagram feed before we actually post anything. Unfortunately, it's not a free app but it's worth the small expense to get those instagram posts organized, written, and even scheduled ahead of time. Now, we don't plan every single post on Planoly because life and events happen that we like to capture and post about too. But, we always have something available to post if we need it.

On top of all the planning, Planoly also provides some pretty killer analytics. Yes, you can get these if you have a business account but Planoly goes into some more detail that Instagram doesn't offer (yet). 

We currently have some social media clients with feeds planned out for months thanks to this lifesaving tool! 


Another lifesaver....Buffer. We use this for scheduling and sharing multiple client posts to multiple platforms with one click at the most optimal times each day. This app allows you to schedule months of posts out ahead of time, which is super helpful and saves so much time.

It's extremely easy to use, and also includes helpful analytics so you can decide what posting content and times work the best for each client. We love that! The best part is their browser extension that allows you share any web page, photo, even a text excerpt that interests you while browsing.

Pricing ranges from free (covers only one social platform with one user) up to $399 (covers 150 accounts and up to 25 team members). 

Adobe Creative Cloud

As professional designers, we use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to create our pinnable images and graphics for our social media and blog posts. This software is pretty pricey, and has a steep learning curve for beginners, but it's our most used tool.

That brings us to what we recommend non-designers use to create pinnable graphics...


Whether you’re a design newbie or professional, Canva makes creating beautiful designs as easy as possible using templates and layouts that you can customize to fit your needs. Pricing ranges from free to about $13 a month.


We get quite a few inquiries from Pinterest, so keeping our boards in tip-top shape is important to us. Enter BoardBooster.

BoardBoosters allows you to schedule pins, streamline group contribution, improve pin quality by testing your pins for broken links and duplicates, clean up your boards by removing unwanted pins, and optimizing your strategy by viewing your best performing boards, best time to pin, etc.

Pricing ranges from free to $50 a month.


Afterlight is one of our go-to image editing apps for quick and straight forward editing. It offers a simple user-friendly design with helpful tools (filters, textures, cropping, and more) to help you get the best photo for your social feed. 

It costs only $.99 in your preferred app store.


Boomerang helps you create super fun mini videos that loop back and forth, and allow you to share on social. 

It's super easy to use. Just find something or someone that's moving and simply click the button. Tap it once and Boomerang does the rest: shoots a burst of 10 photos and turns them into a delightful mini video. Share it on Facebook and Instagram right from the app, or save your video to your camera roll to share later.  We love to mix a boomerang into our feed every once in awhile to mix things up.
